How to play Crud

You and the house stand at opposite ends of the table. There's no cue stick — drag from your rail to throw the cue ball at the black 8-ball.
Once the 8-ball is moving it must not stop. On your turn, hit it with your thrown cue ball before it dies. The instant you make contact, it's the other player's problem.
The ring around the 8-ball shows how much life it has left.
If your cue ball rolls back into your own end, tap to catch it and toss again — the 8-ball stays exactly where it is.
Each player starts with 3 lives. Lose them all and you're out.

Dead ball — you let the 8-ball stop before striking it.
Short shot — you strike it but it travels less than six inches.
Back shot — you throw toward your own rail.
Sink shot — the 8-ball drops in a pocket. Quirk of the game: the other player loses the life, so sinking it is a weapon.
